Volunteers needed in London

Islington Families (part of EPIC Trust) is a charity which supports struggling families by offering them emotional and practical support in areas such as parenting skills, housing, benefits, budgetting advice, education and training advice and helping them to access services and opportunities which can improve their quality of life. Lack of spoken and written English skills can be a major barrier which our families face.

We would like to recruit volunteers who would be interested in teaching English to some of our service users who are struggling with their spoken and written English or may be lacking confidence. These service users may be asylum seekers or may not be able to access English classes through other routes. We believe that by improving their English, this could enable them to feel more empowered and more integrated into society.

By giving up a couple of hours of their time each week (days and times are flexible), volunteers could make a big difference to the lives of people who want to improve their English skills, build confidence and make a better life for themselves and their families. It would give volunteers the opportunity to gain valuable experience, develop their teaching skills, use their existing skills and creativity and a make a valuable contribution to the community. We pay for volunteers’ expenses and volunteers can access a wide range of training opportunities through our organisation.

EPIC Trust enhances Life Chances for its service users. One EPIC service user told us, “I just wanted to let you know how much you supporting me has helped. With your help I can become anything I want. My life feels much easier than when I was on my own.”
