About the Area
Thua Thien Hue
is located in the central region of Vietnam,
bordered on the north side by Quang Tri Province,
and on the south side by Da Nang City. With a
population of nearly 1 million stretching over one
City and eight Districts, Thua Thien Hue is still
one of poor provinces of Vietnam and Hue is the main
city of the province. Harbouring strong cultural
traditions, it is also considered a centre of
education in central Vietnam.
However, educating the poor in the area is still a huge problem, and one that is being recognised by local authorities and NGOs alike. Our program of providing English language tuition focuses on orphans and assisting vocational training programs for young adults. Orphaned children usually face difficulty when they leave their institutions because of a variety of factors. Not least, is a lifetime of often substandard and interrupted education.
In a world of growing international dependency, providing spoken and written English language skills to disadvantaged people just starting off in life will dramatically help them make a better future for themselves in a competitive job and education market.

Where we work
Home of Affection Orphanage
The Home of Affection Orphanage in Hue has been
sponsored by Hue Help since January
2008. It’s
currently home to twenty three children – the
youngest is under two, and the
oldest is
nineteen. Since we’ve been working at the orphanage,
we’ve put a lot of support
into increasing the
education, health and quality of life of the
children there. However, most
of them have still
had less education than a lot of kids in Vietnam,
and their abilities range
dramatically.
Plan LABS
Plan LABS is a
vocational training centre that provides free
training to disadvantaged young adults (17-21 years)
in and around Hue. The students here learn practical
skills to help them find work in specific areas, and
it is a great alternative to conventional education
institutions. There are currently three classes
running there - Food and Bar Services, Accommodation
services and Customer Relations Services. Acquiring
skills in spoken and written English is essential
for the students to find work in these areas after
leaving the centre.
Hoa My School
Hoa My School
runs evening classes for the wider community. The
students here have to
pay a fee for their tuition
(100,000 VND, or 7.25 USD) as it’s supplementary to
standard
education, but Hue Help receives half of
this to put towards supporting our teachers and our
orphanage. The school works with a variety of age
groups, but our volunteers teach groups
of young
adults.
The cost
Hue Help doesn't charge any fees for volunteers in Vietnam!
The approximate cost for a single volunteer is 300 USD per month for food and accomodation. As this program actually generates an income for Hue Help, volunteers will actually receive a small income for their work as well!
Volunteers will be expected to cover other costs of their trip, which includes a return flight, vaccinations, entry visas, and insurance. For more information, please read our full program plan.
Deposit
Volunteers will be
required to pay a deposit of 750USD to be confirmed
on the program, which will be refunded in full after
the program is completed! This is payable after your
application has been accepted.
How long do placements last?
Volunteers placements are usually for six months. Depending on current demand and our capacity, we may be able to be flexible and will consider every application individually.

NOTE: Because of the time it takes to cover the administration to send volunteers to Vietnam, usually you will have to apply a minimum of two months before the proposed start date of your placement.
After we receive an application, we will assess it and consider your suitability for the program. Our volunteer co-ordinator will then contact you, and may ask for a telephone interview. If you are successful, we will then notify you and send you the formal paperwork.
