Many potential teachers decide to take a pre service course such as a basic English grammar course or a TEFL Taster course just to get a feeling for what they may be taking on and whether TEFL is a suitable choice for them.
If you have never taught before, are not sure if you want to make this a life-long career or just spend time travelling and working abroad, the basic qualification which will equip you with the skills and knowledge is the 120 hour Certificate in TEFL. This qualification meets the industry standard acknowledged worldwide as containing at least 100 hours of study and recognised by an external accreditation board. The LTTC Certificate in Tefl is endorsed by TQUK, an OFQUAL approved awarding organisation, as equivalent to Level 5 on the QCL under the endorsed provision.
For those who perhaps have some teaching experience and/or want a more academic course, the Diploma in TESOL course programme is designed to meet these requirements. Endorsed by TQUK at Level 7, this course provides you with all you need to progress on to senior teacher, director of studies and management positions.
Then there are a wide range of short courses and speciality programmes designed to help you progress in your continuing professional development, such as teaching Business English, Young Learners, teaching pronunciation, vocabulary and many, many more specialisms.
Here at the London Teacher Training College, we have been training TEFL/TESOL teachers for decades and we are only to happy to share our knowledge and advice when helping you to decide which course to follow. Please contact us and let us help you in this important, life changing decision.
